Information Architecture

VA website organization

VA’s goal is to provide authoritative, accessible, single-source-of-truth content that is easy to find, understand, trust, and use. This work is rooted in and guided by these strategies and inputs:

  • VA’s 2017 digital modernization and brand consolidation strategy
  • The 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act (IDEA) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Memo M-23-22
  • Continuous, direct usability testing with and feedback from Veterans and their family members and caregivers

Based on these goals, we organize information in ways that provide clear and easy-to-navigate experiences for each customer audience VA serves. For example, Veterans have told us they want to be able to manage all their benefits and care in one place. Therefore, we continue to work to consolidate all benefit and health care content and tools within the modernized VA.gov to provide an experience based on Veterans’ mental model rather than VA’s organizational structure.

VA organizes content in categories, including those listed here.
